Back in 2017, Gierlinksi et al. published a paper regarding some "Possible Hominin Footprints" they had uncovered and dated as being 5.7 million years old. This would be a big deal, given the only bipedal hominins at that time were in Chad and adjacent areas. The scientific community swiftly busted these tracks, noting they probably weren't footprints at all, let alone those of a Hominin, using diagnostic analyses and various comparative studies.
